First Contact

First Contact is a free, mandatory program organized by the Office of Educational Opportunity Programs & Ethnic Affairs (EOP) at San Diego State University. It is designed for all newly admitted SDSU/EOP students (first-year and transfer students) and should not be confused with San Diego State University’s New Student Orientation, which is designed to reach all new, incoming SDSU students. For more information visit SDSU's New Student Orientation.

At First Contact, students will learn more about EOP's programs, services, and benefits. They will also have the opportunity to meet the staff. In addition, incoming students will meet their EOP Counselors in a special session. At this session Counselors discuss program policies and procedures, expectations and additional services, which include:

  • Academic advising
  • Personal counseling
  • Free academic support
  • Campus resources
  • Testing
  • Graduation and degree requirements

Before attending First Contact, students need to review and sign the EOP Student-Program Agreement which highlights EOP services, policies and procedures, as well as expectations for student participation, all of which help to ensure academic success.

2024 First Contacts will have two options: attending in-person or virtually. Lunch and snacks will be provided for in-person sessions.

Our staff will do their best to schedule your first First Contact date selection. Given the large volume of new students, please remain open to an alternate date.

Check your SDSU email regularly. You will receive information about registering and completing First Contact after May 6th.
