AOD Project Funding
The strategic goal of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Task Force at San Diego State is to convene a cross-divisional task force to review, assess, and implement additional support for programs addressing the negative academic and personal consequences of abuse of alcohol and other drugs.
An initiative of the AOD Task Force is AOD Project Funding, a program that provides one-time funds for students, faculty, and staff. The purpose of the funds is to support innovative projects within the SDSU community that address the prevention, intervention and/or awareness of alcohol and other drug-related issues on campus.

AOD Project Funding
San Diego State University faculty, staff, and students may apply for AOD Project Funding. Applicants are eligible to request a maximum of $3,000 every academic year for projects and initiatives that align with the purpose of the AOD Project Funding, AOD Task Force, and the mission of San Diego State University. Funding decisions are at the discretion of the AOD Task Force and the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.
The AOD Project Funding may be used to fully fund or supplement a breadth of projects. University policies and processes must be followed at all times, even if not specifically listed in the funding guidelines.
AOD Project Funding Guidelines
The following guidelines outline the usage and terms of the AOD Project Funding:
- A maximum of $3,000 may be allocated per organization, entity, or individual per year.
- The maximum allotment of $3,000 may be used to fund more than one project, but each project must have its own application.
- Multiple requests cannot be made for the same project by different applicants.
- Funding may be used for programs and activities, including, but not limited to, public speakers, special events, alternative events, film screenings, and panel presentations.
- Funding may be used for food and beverages, with the food and beverage allocation not exceeding a total of $1000.
- Funding may be used for travel, conferences, and/or professional development provided there is a clear connection to prevention, intervention and/or awareness of alcohol and other drugs-related issues and the SDSU community.
- Funding may be used for incentives for participants of a project or event, but such incentives may not exceed $300 per person.
- The applicant cannot profit monetarily from the project or event.
- The funding may not be used for fundraising or philanthropic efforts.
- The funding may not be used for time, labor, or any portion of a salary.
- The funding may not be used to purchase alcohol, other drugs, or paraphernalia.
- Reimbursements may not be issued; all requested funds must adhere to the University’s purchasing and contracting processes.
- Student Organizations must adhere to University event policies, including the Event Approval process.
AOD Project Funding Procedures
Funded projects must align with the strategic goal of the AOD Task Force of supporting programs addressing the negative academic and personal consequences of abuse of alcohol and other drugs. Successful applications will demonstrate how their project is innovative, addresses the prevention, intervention and/or awareness of alcohol and other drug-related issues on campus, and impacts the SDSU community.
The AOD Project Funding request process includes an application to the AOD Task Force Funding Committee. Applications will be submitted using a Google Form (click button below), with supplemental documentation (budget, quotes) submitted to the AOD Task Force liaison by emailing [email protected]. The application and supplemental materials must be submitted at least 12 weeks in advance of the project date. Additionally, the application must be submitted at least 48 hours in advance of the upcoming AOD Task Force Funding Committee meeting.
The AOD Task Force Funding Committee meets biweekly on Fridays at 9:00am. During this meeting, the AOD Task Force Funding Committee reviews applications and may facilitate applicant presentations. Applicants may be asked to attend the meeting if in person clarification of their project is required. Committee feedback and/or decisions will be espoused to the applicant by the following Friday. Applications reviewed at the meeting will include any submitted after 48 hours prior the last meeting (for example, to be considered for the March 9th meeting, the application would need to be submitted by March 7 at 9:00 am, if submitted after that, the application would not be reviewed until March 23).
Projects awarded funding must adhere to the University's purchasing and contracting process. Applicants will be required to schedule a meeting with Well-being and Health Promotion Department staff in order to review funding needs and develop a timeline for implementation. The initial meeting must occur within ten (10) days of the funding approval.
Following the project, the applicant is responsible for submitting an evaluation, which will demonstrate the impact of the project on prevention, intervention and/or awareness of alcohol and other drug-related issues at San Diego State University. For programs or events with a target population of SDSU students, the Presence platform must be used with attendance tracked.
