THE SCIENCE SUPPORTING MINDFULNESS PRACTICE

A number of recent studies suggest that mindfulness fosters many aspects of physical and mental health. These include:

  • improvements in mood and reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression
  • increased resiliency to stress
  • improved concentration and cognitive performance
  • improvements in immune function, blood pressure, and cortisol levels
  • increased empathy and compassion
  • increased sense of well-being

Although more research needs to be done, there is a growing body of evidence that mindfulness and meditation can be an important piece of your health and wellness. The videos and articles included in this page summarize some of what we know. The YouTube descriptions for each video also contain information about the sources used by the creators, for those of you who are interested in the soundness of the science.
