It’s the spring semester and time to head back to class. But don’t forget to have
some fun — and that’s where we’ve gotcha covered.
Meet up with old friends, make new ones and have a great time together at the free,
late-night Aztec Nights. The Spring Semester Aztec Nights slate kicks off with two
weekends of back-to-back events, starting the weekend of Jan. 20-21.
Wear your whites to the neon party and dance the night away, enjoy an emo-themed karaoke
night, raise the stakes at a casino-themed night and get ready for a night of fierceness
at a drag-themed event hosted by Miz Cracker from season 10 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race”
and SDSU’s most famous queen, Amber St. James!

Men’s and Women’s B-ball in MWC Title Hunt
Get out to Viejas Arena to cheer on the men’s and women’s basketball teams, as they
are both in the hunt for Mountain West titles and a berth in the NCAA tournament!
Both teams have several home games during January and February — student tickets are
free!
Tickets for men's basketball are mobile at GoAztecs.com/StudentMobileTix First claim date is three business days before each home game, except for university
holidays. Women’s tickets distributed on game day at Viejas Arena Box Office.
Monday Night Movies in February
Looking for something fun for the start of your school week? Head over to the student
union Theatre on Feb. 6 and Feb. 27.
On Feb. 6, enjoy a screening of the 2001 blockbuster romantic comedy “Bridget Jones's
Diary” starring Renee Zelwegger and Colin Firth. Then come back Feb. 27 for the 2012
college comedy musical “Pitch Perfect” that spawned two sequels and a TV project.

MANY WAYS TO CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH
February is Black History Month, and SDSU has a loaded calendar of events to celebrate
African Americans and their contributions.
The month kicks off Feb. 2 with a collaboration between the Black Resource Center
and One SDSU – a screening and discussion of the 2016 James Baldwin documentary, “I
Am Not Your Negro.” It concludes Feb. 28 with the BRC’s birthday and Henrietta Goodwin
Remembrance event as well as the annual spoken word event “Let the Poet Speak.”
On Feb. 7, SDSU will host an educational empowerment tribute dinner in honor of longtime
SDSU professor and current California Secretary of State Shirley Weber at the Parma
Payne Goodall Alumni Center.

Actor Carl Weathers Stars in Upcoming President’s Lecture Series
Do you have a hard time deciding on a career? Come hear from Carl Weathers, who both
acted in theater productions and played football at SDSU before going professional
in both fields. Weathers — currently an Emmy-nominated actor as well as director and
producer — will be back on campus for the President's Lecture Series.
Weathers’ topic: “From SDSU to the NFL to Hollywood.” RSVP by Jan. 23 to see him from 3:30 - 5 p.m. Feb. 2 in Montezuma Hall at the Conrad Prebys Aztec
Student Union.
Weathers was nominated for an Emmy as an Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series
for “The Mandalorian,” in which he plays Greef Karga. He is also known for portraying
Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” series, Al Dillon in “Predator,” Chubbs Peterson in “Happy
Gilmore,” and a fictionalized version of himself on “Arrested Development.”
Save the Dates: Buildings Will Be Renamed to Honor SDSU Trailblazers
Two SDSU buildings - East Commons and West Commons - are respectively being renamed
in honor of Dr. Charles B. Bell Jr., one of the first African American faculty members
at SDSU, and Dr. Ellen Ochoa, a former astronaut and the first Latina to go into space.
The events will be held on April 3 and on May 5, respectively.
Students, along with faculty and staff, are invited to attend both naming ceremonies,
which are free and open to the public.
Black Excellence Experience Spring Kickoff Is Jan. 31
Black Excellence Experience was created to affirm and create a culture of support
for Black/African American students and their families by striving to be students'
village, guide and connection to the SDSU community through focused mentoring, programming
and communal care.
The B.E.E. SDSU Spring Kickoff — to highlight and connect students to resources and
to help build community — is 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at Tula Community Center. Students
will find their B.E.E. Hive, a community of SDSU faculty, staff, and peers who will
commit to supporting specific students as they navigate through SDSU.
A.S. ELECTIONS APPLICATION WINDOW OPENS JAN. 27
Interested in running for, or being appointed to, a student leadership position on
campus?
Starting Jan. 27, you’ll have your chance, as the Associated Students’ election season
kicks off! Beginning that day, you’ll be able to apply for elected and appointed positions
until Feb. 17 and March 17, respectively, when the application windows for those positions
close.
Once you’ve applied, don’t forget to attend the prospective candidates workshop at
3:30 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Theatre in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union.

Student Organization Pop-Up Jan. 19

SISSTER, FratMANers Open for Enrollment
Become an advocate to decrease sexual violence. The FratMANers and SISSTER peer health
education programs raise awareness about sexual violence and its prevention.
If you are a member of a campus fraternity or sorority and have earned – or are earning
concurrently – 40 units, you can earn up to two (SISSTER) or three (FratMANers) units
while developing leadership skills and learning about topics that matter.

RSO Training, Roster Filing Deadlines Are Here
Are you a new or continuing student organization president or treasurer who has not
yet completed the required training to become recognized for the 2022-23 academic
year?
Register to attend the required RSO Officer Obligations Training (RSO3) and the Inclusive Leadership Awareness Training (ILAT).
Additionally, all recognized student organizations are now required to have a roster
on file with the university. The deadline for this has been extended until Jan. 20.
Please use the RSO CLIP Roster form to submit and complete this requirement.
BOOMERS, WHALE WATCHING, SAFARI PARK AND ANT MAN, FOR FREE
If you’re looking for some fun, free weekend events to kick off your spring semester,

February’s slate of free events includes excursions to Boomers entertainment center
in Vista, whale watching, opening weekend of “Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” at
AMC 18 Fashion Valley Mall, and a trip to San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

Talk It Out at C&PS for Confidential Support
If you’re stressed or just need a listening ear, counselors from Counseling & Psychological
Services provide confidential support to SDSU students on a drop-in basis through
the Talk It Out program.
Meet one-on-one with a counselor for 15-20 minutes to get perspective, ask questions
and learn about strategies and resources to address your concerns. Talk It Out allows
you to speak with a counselor without an appointment, much like visiting a professor’s
office hours.

Spring Support Groups, Mental Health Workshops
Counseling & Psychological Services offers a number of groups and workshops to promote
the well-being of SDSU students. Groups are a great way to work through concerns with
the support of others who really get it, while workshops can teach new ways to tend
to your mental health through interactive discussion and activities.

Una Conversación On Mental Health, Wellness
Join fellow students 3 - 5 p.m. Feb. 23 at Montezuma Hall for discussion about the
issues and stories centered around Latine/x student mental health experiences in a
brave space with cafecito y pan.
The event begins with a moderated conversation led by mental health professionals
and students who are passionate about the progression and improvement of Latine/x
students’ mental well-being. Students and invited faculty/staff will then be seated
together to facilitate deeper discussions and to share experiences. RSVP here.

The two-day SDSU Student Symposium showcases undergraduate and graduate student discovery,
innovation and creativity.
Presidential Awards ($500) are made to recognize outstanding achievement, and these
students go on to represent SDSU at the CSU Student Research Competition. In total,
more than 50 cash awards are given in recognition of outstanding presentations or
performances.

First Transborder Graduation Scheduled in Tijuana in May
The Division of International Affairs, in partnership with several campus partners,
is planning the inaugural Transborder Graduation in Tijuana on May 3.

GOSPEL FEST RETURNS ON FEB. 26
DSU Gospel Fest, which connects the university and local churches through song and
other performances, returns to campus in February.
This year’s event is scheduled for 6 - 8:30 p.m. Feb. 26 and will feature Eddie Baltrip
& Fulfillment, the West Coast’s premier gospel choir.

Get a leg up on your job and internship search by attending the two-day Spring In-Person
Career & Internship Fair.
The Career Services event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Feb. 8 (STEM industries)
and 9 (all industries) inside Montezuma Hall. More than 120 employers have signed

The Spring 2023 term has begun! Make sure to log into my.SDSU to clear any charges or pending to-do items under your “Tasks” tile.
Please remember that financial aid award amounts are directly tied to the number of
units you register for. If you change your enrollment after financial aid and/or scholarships
are disbursed, you may see a reduction in your award which will result in you being
billed.
From mid January to mid February the Student Financial Center will be heavily impacted assisting students. To avoid long wait times please check
your my.SDSU portal to access your financial aid and student account information.
Many types of tasks can stop disbursements. Resolve outstanding tasks now.
Finally, the 2023-24 FAFSA/Dream Act application is open. Apply now!
